William F. Baker, Jr., MD, FACP

Internal Medicine

Dr. William F. Baker attended Foothill High School and Bakersfield College and graduated from the University of California, Irvine Medical School in 1975. He remained at UC Irvine to pursue an Internal Medicine residency and became Board Certified in 1978. He also has added qualification in Sports Medicine from the American Board of Internal Medicine and is certified by the International Board of Thrombosis, Hemostasis, and Vascular Medicine. Dr. Baker is a Fellow of American College of Physicians. Dr. Baker returned to Bakersfield in 1978 entering the private practice of Internal Medicine.

While teaching at Kern Medical Center for over 20 years, Dr. Baker was appointed as an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles. Additionally, he has served as Chief of Medicine and Chief of Staff at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital. Dr. Baker established the Cardiac Rehabilitation at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital in 1982 and was the Director until 2015 when he became the Director of Cardiac Rehabilitation at Bakersfield Heart Hospital. In recognizing his ability to manage patients with complex illnesses, Bakersfield Memorial Hospital has bestowed on him the Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Baker takes great interest in the management of patients with Internal Medicine, Sports Medicine, and blood clotting problems. During his career, Dr. Baker has published over 35 peer-reviewed medical journal articles, authored book chapters, and has been recognized for excellence in teaching medical students, residents, nurses and community physicians.

Dr. Baker enjoys fly fishing, playing golf, travelling, and camping. As an adoring grandfather, he cherishes leisure time with his wife Sharon and eight grandchildren. For over forty years, he has served as the Team Physician for Bakersfield College and can be seen on the sidelines at most games. Dr. Baker has received numerous awards including induction into the Foothill High School Hall of Fame, Kern County Bob Ellis Sports Hall of Fame and has received a Lifetime Achievement award from the Bakersfield College Foundation. He is also a recipient of the Kern High School District Jim Burke Light and Liberty Award, for meritorious service to the cause of education in Kern County.
